Artesania is a small shop in the village of Pollença which is situated in the north of the Balearic Island, Mallorca. All the products sold in the shop and also here in the online version are hand made by an artisan who lives full time on the island

The idea for the shop was born during a conversation with a friend who owns the shop next door. She mentioned that the premises next to her was available for rent. At first I rejected the idea. Why on earth would I want the stress of being a shop owner when there is enough stress trying to earn a living as it is? Then I came up with the idea ( on the drive home) of selling only things hand made in Mallorca or at the furthest Spain. Once home I text my friend to see what she thought of the idea, the reply was - Brilliant! This idea would not let me rest and sleep became difficult because my brain would not stop thinking, should I or shouldn't I. The only solution to this dilemma was to view the shop premisses and then it would prove the idea impossible. Of course when I viewed the premises with the owner it was perfect, in terrible condition but perfect, oh darn it!

From here any blocks I put up to give an excuse not to go forward were blown away almost before I could put them there. It was as if life was telling me that this was the direction I should travel. You can't argue with such strong signs therefore, true to form, once I have made up my mind it was full pelt to make it all happen. 5 weeks later, on the 20th March 2008 I opened my pride and joy "Artesania" Productos de Mallorca.

Thank you all those who helped me to make this happen and also who tolerated my ups and downs through it all. Thank you also to all the artisans without whom of course Artesania could not exist.

The most special thanks must go to Terry, Andrew and Aston who completed the shop improvements in record time, patiently listened to my strange ideas for shop fittings and décor ( ripping out the perfect false ceiling made a few hearts miss a beat) and for helping to provided the most relaxing working environment I have ever known.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my selection of products, I certainly enjoyed finding them and meeting the wonderful people that have created them. .
